New Board Member At Runway For Recovery

For the better part of a decade I’ve volunteered for Runway For Recovery, first exclusively as a still photographer and more recently shooting motion with my production company, Copper Hound Pictures. Runway is a Massachusetts based non-profit that helps families who have lost a loved-one to breast cancer, providing wrap around services with everything from therapy to groceries. It is an incredible organization that makes a tangible impact on the lives of the families it serves. This year I was honored to join the Board of Directors.

The central event of the year for Runway is a fashion show with a twist. All the models who walk the runway are either survivors of breast cancer or are walking in honor of someone who passed away from the disease. The evening also involved several of our short films that help illustrate the work that has been done over the past year. The video above was my contribution - oddly being on the other side of the camera.

Runway For Recovery Event

A look at the runway from the 2018 show.

Below is a transcript of the video:

My name is Tim Llewellyn, I'm a partner at Copper Hound Pictures. We are a commercial photography and video production company based in Boston. We've been doing work for Runway for Recovery for almost 10 years now.

The films that you've seen tonight that have been profiling some of the people that Runway has helped are just the tip of the iceberg of what we have produced for Runway over the years. We've done model photography, we've done some of the photography of the runway event itself, and we've also had the honor to do legacy videos for women who, in their final days, wanted to leave a message for their children as they grew up. So it can't be overstated how emotional the work can be but also how important it can be.

From a corporate sponsorship perspective, you want to make sure that the work that you do and the money that you give, and the support that you give, goes somewhere that it actually makes a big difference.

I know, because I've been in these homes with people, that the work that Runway does is changing the trajectory of people's lives and bringing them hope, and bringing them joy, and bringing them a community at a really difficult time. I don't know what else we could do in the community that would give us more of a sense of pride and energy. You are affecting people and helping people at points in their life that I can't even imagine going through. I mean, these are people who have just lost mothers or sisters or daughters, and, for us, to be able to just be allowed in the room at that point to film and to document and to help tell their story and to help bring attention to Runway for Recovery is... It's an incredible experience and I think it's something that you get a taste of at the show here tonight.

But I think it's so important to understand that the story doesn't end here at the runway. This is work that goes on all year round with people that continue to need help. So whatever you can do tonight to help those people, they're going to need it, and your help will be appreciated.

So if you're considering corporate sponsorship I would just ask, "Please reach out to someone from Runway for Recovery and see how you can get involved, and see how your company can get involved, because you can make a real difference."
